2017 Having been the owners of Boulder Dash® since it was created by Peter Liepa with Chris Gray over 30 years ago, we’re proud to announce that we’ve assigned all rights to BBG Entertainment who, as the new owners, have some VERY exciting plans for this well beloved gaming classic property.
2016 Boulder Dash®-30th Anniversary™ for PC and Mac. The first sequel since 1987 to include an editor, allowing users to create and share their own caves on Steam Workshop! The original Boulder Dash® was created by Peter Liepa with Chris Gray over 30 years ago. Boulder Dash®-30th Anniversary™ is the first, and only, game in the Boulder Dash series to include both a premium world designed by Peter Liepa and another by Chris Gray.
While providing classic Boulder Dash core gameplay mechanics and features, Boulder Dash®-30th Anniversary™ introduces exciting new elements such as ramps with diagonal movement, which opens up new and intriguing puzzles while creating a very different and organic look for the caves.
2015 Boulder Dash® Vol. 1 for Intellivision, programmed by Scott Nudds featured the original 16 scrolling caves and 4 bonus caves. Co-Published First Star Software, Inc. and Elektronite/Classic Game Publishers produced a limited run. The boxed game was bundled with a cartridge, manual, and two control pad overlays.
2014 Boulder Dash®-30th Anniversary™ for iOS. Featured by Apple in Best New Games in mid October, quickly moving into the Top 50 for Free Puzzle Games. Soon thereafter released for Android SmartPhones and Tablets, Amazon Kindle & Fire TV as well as Windows 8/mobile, again by First Star Software, Inc. with co-developer and co-publisher TapStar Interactive. Boulder Dash®-30th Anniversary™ had our heroes, Rockford™, Crystal™ and others, facing a slew of new, exciting challenges in this legendary action puzzler. Players needed to dig through spectacular caves with 3D elements; avoid falling boulders; collect valuable gems; avoid nefarious enemies along the way; and, discover treasure chests with rare collectibles and potent power-ups. There were 260 exciting levels, 13 new, gorgeous worlds, and 10 playable characters.
2013 Boulder Dash®-XL 3D™ for Nintendo 3DS released at retail and on Nintendo’s eShop in Europe and North America, co-published by First Star Software and Reef Entertainment. Boulder Dash®-The FULL Collection™ for Android, with over 250 cave permutations, from 5 games in the Boulder Dash® series was published by First Star Software, Inc. on OYUA and GameStick..
2012 Boulder Dash®-The FULL Collection™ for Android included over 250 cave permutations, from 5 games in the Boulder Dash® series all for a single price. Boulder Dash®-XL 3D™ for Nintendo 3DS as well as Boulder Dash®-XL™ for iOS and Android SmartPhones and Tablets were then the latest versions of this sequel with over 150 caves! Also that year, the original Boulder Dash® Vol. 1 was co-published by First Star Software, Inc. and AtariAge on the Atari 2600. Andrew Davie and Thomas Jentzsch, joint programmers, together, worked on-and-off on the game for about six years.
2011 Boulder Dash®-XL™ for Xbox LIVE® Arcade and Boulder Dash®-XL™ for Windows PC in partnership with Kalypso and Catnip Games feature both Rockford™ and Crystal™ in over 150 all new caves, across 5 Game Modes. Boulder Dash®-The Collection™ for Android provided gamers with a choice of 5 games in the Boulder Dash® series each sold as an in-app purchase. Boulder Dash® became part of the Smithsonian's Exhibit: "The Art of Videogames". French, German and Spanish language versions of Boulder Dash®-Pirate’s Quest™ were released by Big Fish Games and other portal partners.
2010 Boulder Dash® Vol. 2-'Rockford's Revenge'™ released for iPhone/iPod touch and iPad as an in-app purchase with Manomio's C-64 emulator for Apple iOS. Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!™ for BlackBerry was featured by RIM on AppWorld and Sprint picked up the title as well! Boulder Dash®-Pirate’s Quest™ made its debut on AOL Games.
2009 Boulder Dash® Vol. 1, the first game in the series, was named ‘New and Noteworthy’ by Apple when launched for iPhone/iPod touch. Shortly thereafter, Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!™ was released for BlackBerry, then followed by Windows Mobile, iPhone/iPod touch, J2ME and BREW. The original Commodore 64 version of Boulder Dash® was released in North America for Nintendo’s WiiWare/Virtual Console for C-64. Boulder Dash®-Pirate’s Quest™ for PC and Mac followed, as part of the continuing releases during Boulder Dash’s 25th anniversary year.
2008 The original Commodore 64 version of Boulder Dash® was released in Europe on September 19th for Nintendo’s WiiWare/Virtual Console for C-64. In a recent TV interview with the legendary Ian Livingstone (“godfather of Lara Croft and Edios’ creative director”), when asked to name his favorite game on the Commodore 64 … he said it was Boulder Dash®!
2007 Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!™ for the Nintendo DS throughout Europe on November 22nd, distribution by Electronic Arts. Boulder Dash®-Treasure Pleasure™ on Disney's Game Cafe, four years after the game's initial release... talk about having legs.
2006 Boulder Dash®-M.E.™2 for cell phones with co-publisher i-Play. A limited-edition release of the original Boulder Dash® on the Atari 5200 was co-published by First Star Software and Atari2600.com this year as well.
2005 Boulder Dash®-Tournaments For Prizes™ for cell phones; Boulder Dash® and Boulder Dash®-Panic!™ for Danger's hiptop/Sidekick SmartPhones; Boulder Dash® Vol. 2-'Rockford's Revenge'™ for the Atari 5200 co-published by First Star Software and Atari2600.com.

2003 Boulder Dash®-Treasure Pleasure™ for Java and Flash enabled browsers or for off-line on Windows PCs; Boulder Dash®-M.E.™ for J2ME, BREW, and mophun cell phones.
First Star licensed certain rights pertaining to only Boulder Dash® Vol. 1 to KEMCO. As a result, in late 2002 and early 2003 KEMCO released Boulder Dash® EX™ for Game Boy Advance throughout the world.
At about the same time, in 2002, First Star and its partner FlyOrDie/Solware released Boulder Dash®-Xmas 2002™ for Java or Flash enabled browsers, or PCs supporting Microsoft Java Virtual Machine.
In 2001 a JAVA-enabled cell phone version of Boulder Dash® Vol. 1 was released in Japan by KEMCO. (Which due to its success was followed by a cell phone version of Boulder Dash®-EX™, released only in Japan.)
Boulder Dash® was first published by First Star in 1984 on the C-64, Apple II and Atari 4/800. After the original Boulder Dash®, the second game, BOULDER DASH® Vol. 2-'Rockford’s Revenge'™ was combined with Boulder Dash® and published by Electronic Arts as Super Boulder Dash™ on the C-64, Apple II, IBM-CGA and Atari 4/800 from 1986-1987.
The Boulder Dash® Construction Kit™ was published in North America by EPYX on the C-64, Apple II, IBM-CGA, Atari ST and Atari 4/800 from 1987-1988. It was also licensed for sale throughout the world including Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and Japan on MSX, NEC and various disk and cartridge platforms unique to these territories.
In 1990, as a result of a license to JVC and a sub-license to Nintendo, JVC released an NES version of Boulder Dash® in North America and Nintendo published NES and Game Boy versions in Europe with Data East selling the NES version in Japan.
In addition Boulder Dash® or its derivatives have been released four times into the coin-operated arcades: twice by Data East (1985 & 1991), once by EXIDY and once by Mastertronics/Arcadia Systems as Rockford™. Mastertronics also published floppy versions of Rockford™ on C-64, Spectrum, IBM-CGA & EGA, Atari ST and Amiga.
